Deck Installation - March 30 - 31

Another major milestone in the construction of ESMERALDE.  The deck and headliner, already fastened together, are lifted into place over the hull, 5200 is laid down, the deck positioned and placed, and finally, the toe rails bolted on.  All this over a two-day period, March 30-31.

Above, Scott (left) and Jamie (right) work the butyl tape and 5200 into the hull/deck joint.  We are told that a total of eleven tubes of 5200 seal the hull and deck, and another eight go into the deck-toe rail joint.  Of these 19 tubes, about three or four tubes-worth get squeezed out and wiped off.

And Voila!  Ready for the toe rail, below left.  Lucy fits the rail, below right.

So there you have it: the deck and toe rails are in place.   Our thanks to Scott, Jamie and Lucy, and everyone else who has had a hand in the project, for their care and commitment, and to Amanda for getting the photos to us in as near to real-time as you can get!
